Starting Something Fresh–Joanies

Over the past couple of years I have not done much in group activities.

I have kept going my. Tuesday group but since July our tutor has been unable to be with us due to ill health. yet we still meet as a group and work away on whatever we want on the computers but we have no-one to ask if we are puzzled over any computer problem.

My voluntary work down at Aberdulais Falls has changed. I used to be in the Tea-rooms but it it is not now run with volunteers but with a manager and a ‘pay the staff’ situation.

I had been part of the Volunteers for many years but now I have had to let it go.

So I began thinking. I miss my brain being active, company of others, talks, trips ect.. There must be something out there for me.

So here I am at a new era of my life. I now feel eligible to call myself an O.A.P.

(I won’t tell how old I am!)

I have joined the JOANIES Club held down at the local YMCA. I can please my self whether to go or not – no commitment –I like that.

We meet every Monday afternoon with my starting the first  Monday in September. They last for a couple hours approximately.

Over the months I will be writing about what we did. I had a warm welcome and discovered 3 people I knew. Everyone chatted and tea and biscuits were served.

Being the first time back from their August break the leader of the group spoke to us about the coming events. It all sounded exciting and covered what I was interested in.

The following week and the group started as last time – a cuppa, biscuit and chatter amongst ourselves.

Carol, our group leader  began by giving us a shot summary of up coming events. Then she read from a book and also showed us a couple of’ handy hints.

This week I came in contact with a lady I’d known many years ago and disliked.

She has a very abrupt voice and when someone said ‘this is Mary, she replied, in a nasty tone’ oh I know her’ indicating I may be a trouble maker but I thought ‘no take no notice, she is only one out of many. And went to sit at a table not too near her. As you get older you learn how to deal with these situations and I will not stop going because of one person I dislike.

We were told that next week would be a quiz. Gosh, haven’t done one of those in years.

More to follow as the months go by.
