This year I am able to follow the progress of our swans. They are a young couple and first came to the bottom pond last year.
Nesting, last year, took place on the small island, in the previous nest from the other swans that used to reside there. She produced a lot of eggs but only one hatched.
The cygnet stayed with its parents until a couple of weeks ago and has now left the pond to begin a new life somewhere else.
2 days ago I noticed the female swan making a new nest on another part of the island.
Benji and I will be visiting often and I will blog on the progress. One blogger, The Squirrel Basket, follows a tree, I thought I’d ‘follow’ the Swans
Today ‘Mothering Sunday’ and the walk was early in the day. On the way I noticed one tree full of white blossom, another in pink. The pale yellow Catkins are hanging from one or two trees. Looking closely other trees are beginning to show their tiny buds.
Daffodils peep out on the banks and crocus in profusion. Spring is on the way.
The landscape around the pond has changed recently by the parks people felling many trees giving an open sloping area. The weather remains cold but dry. Clouds are in the sky hiding the sun.
The swan is on the island preparing her nest. On the water are the ducks and moorhens
Benji had his extension lead and was able to sniff along the edge and meet the one or two dogs also out early with their owners.
I miss Spotty but its nice to have Benji and do all the things I did with Spotty. She is always in my thoughts.
